How to Create a Custom Conversion

Follow this step-by-step guide when setting up your custom conversions.

Prior to setting up your custom conversion, make sure your paths are clean and that you have already installed your pixel to your funnel. If that is done, you can move forward with the steps below!

Step 1

Navigate to the Custom Conversions tab within your Facebook Events Manager (https://business.facebook.com/events_manager2/custom_conversions). Once there click on "Create Custom Conversion"

Step 2

Within the pop-up, you are able to create your custom conversion. There are a few things you will need to do here.

  • Name your Custom Conversion. Make sure you name them in a way that is easy to identify. You will be using these to optimize your traffic. For example, when naming, it may be wise to name them "Business Name Leads" and "Business Name Schedules".
  • Make sure the "Data Source" is set for the correct pixel. If you are only using one pixel (which most people should) it will default to that pixel.
  • The Conversion Event should be for All URL Traffic.
  • Choose your Standard Event. Facebook will default to use their own. Make sure you override this and choose "Complete Registration".
  • Under the "Rules" section, place the URL or section of the URL you are using.
  • Then just click "Create".

Step 3

Navigate to test events within Facebook Events Manager (https://business.facebook.com/events_manager2).

Within the "Test Browser Events" section, place the URL for the custom conversion event you just created and click "Open Website". This will launch that link in a new tab.

Once that page is fully loaded, navigate back to the previous tab. Now you should see any custom conversion that fired. Make sure that everything is firing properly.

Important Note

Facebook commonly experiences glitches with the test events function. If you don't see your custom conversion has fired, check within the custom conversions section of your Facebook Events manager to ensure that there is a green dot next to the custom conversion and it says, "Active". It can take up to 20 minutes for a custom conversion to show as Active.

If everything above is working properly, you have officially created a custom conversion. Great job!
