Domain vs. Subdomain

Root "Main" Domain

Every website requires a Root Domain. This is a domain that you have registered with Domain providers like GoDaddy, Cloudflare, or even directly with Clickfunnels.

Subdomain

A subdomain is often referred to as the "third level" domain name. This is something that is free to create with your existing root domain.

Below is an example:

domain vs subdomain

How we use them:

We recommend that the Root Domain is something that directly has to do with your specific niche.

For example, if your niche is fitness, your domain may be something like, "fitnesschallenge.com"

The subdomain is how we differentiate each business using that domain. For example, if there are two gyms using that domain they would each have their own subdomain. Their URL's would look something like what's below:

  1. gymname1.fitnesschallenge.com
  2. gymname2.fitnesschallenge.com

Why do we do this?

There are several benefits to using just one domain and adding subdomains as you go. Here are a few:

  • Easy tracking. With only one real website (one domain) it makes tracking within your pixel easy.
  • Cost efficient. Subdomains are free. Instead of buying a brand new domain each time, we can just set up free subdomains.
  • Easy setup. If your domain was purchased within Clickfunnels, your setup process for subdomains is super easy.
